1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing the Bota API, you agree to be bound by these API Terms, our Privacy Policy, and our general Terms of Service. If you are using the API on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization to these terms.2. API License
Subject to your compliance with these API Terms, Bota grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to access and use the API solely to develop, test, and support your integration with Bota services.Permitted Uses
- Integrate Bota recording, transcription, and summarization capabilities into your applications
- Build mobile applications using Bota Mobile SDKs for device pairing and upload
- Create backend services that process Bota webhooks and manage EndUser data
- Develop internal tools for managing your Bota integration
Prohibited Uses
You may not:- Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the API
- Use the API for any unlawful purpose
- Exceed rate limits or attempt to circumvent usage restrictions
- Share API keys or attempt to access other customers’ data
- Use the API to build a competing service
- Redistribute or resell API access
- Use automated means to scrape or collect data beyond normal API usage
3. API Keys and Security
Your Responsibilities
- Keep API keys confidential and secure
- Never embed secret keys (
sk_*) in client-side code or mobile applications - Rotate keys immediately if you suspect compromise
- Implement proper access controls for team members with API access
Key Revocation
Bota may revoke API keys at any time for:- Violation of these API Terms
- Security incidents
- Extended periods of inactivity
- Account termination
4. Rate Limits and Usage
The API is subject to rate limits as described in our Rate Limits documentation. Bota reserves the right to:- Throttle or block requests that exceed limits
- Modify rate limits with reasonable notice
- Implement additional restrictions to protect service stability
5. Data Handling
Your Data
You retain ownership of all data you submit through the API (“Customer Data”). You grant Bota a license to process Customer Data solely to provide the API services.Data Processing
- Audio recordings are processed for transcription and summarization as requested
- We do not use Customer Data to train AI models without explicit consent
- Data is stored in accordance with your project’s retention settings

Compliance
You are responsible for:- Obtaining necessary consents from EndUsers for recording and processing
- Complying with applicable laws regarding data collection and privacy
- Properly handling and securing data received from the API
- Implementing data retention policies appropriate for your use case
6. Availability and Support
Service Availability
We target 99.9% API availability. Current status is available at status.bota.dev. Scheduled maintenance will be announced in advance when possible.Support
Support is provided according to your subscription tier. See Support for contact information and response times.7. Changes to the API
Bota may modify the API at any time. We will:- Provide advance notice for breaking changes when possible
- Maintain deprecated endpoints for at least 12 months after announcing deprecation
- Publish changes in our Changelog
Versioning
The API uses date-based versioning. You can pin to a specific version using theBota-Version header. See Versioning for details.
8. Intellectual Property
Bota IP
The API, documentation, SDKs, and all related materials are owned by Bota and protected by intellectual property laws. These API Terms do not grant you any rights to Bota trademarks or branding.Your IP
You retain all rights to applications and services you build using the API. However, you may not claim ownership of the API itself or Bota’s underlying technology.Feedback
If you provide feedback or suggestions about the API, Bota may use this feedback without obligation to you.9. Disclaimer of Warranties
THE API IS PROVIDED “AS IS” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND. BOTA DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. We do not warrant that:- The API will meet your specific requirements
- The API will be uninterrupted or error-free
- Transcription or summarization results will be completely accurate
- Defects will be corrected within any specific timeframe
10. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, BOTA SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE API. Our total liability for any claims arising from these API Terms shall not exceed the amounts you paid to Bota in the 12 months preceding the claim.11. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold Bota harmless from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from:- Your use of the API
- Your violation of these API Terms
- Your violation of applicable laws
- Your applications or services built using the API
- Claims by your EndUsers
12. Termination
By You
You may stop using the API at any time by deleting your API keys and discontinuing use.By Bota
Bota may suspend or terminate your API access for:- Violation of these API Terms
- Non-payment of applicable fees
- Extended inactivity
- Legal or compliance requirements
Effect of Termination
Upon termination:- Your license to use the API immediately ends
- You must stop all API usage and delete any cached data
- Outstanding fees remain due and payable
13. General Provisions
Governing Law
These API Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to conflict of law principles.Entire Agreement
These API Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and any applicable service agreements, constitute the entire agreement between you and Bota regarding the API.Modifications
Bota may modify these API Terms at any time. We will notify you of material changes via email or dashboard notification. Continued use of the API after changes constitutes acceptance.Contact
